With NCEA results now out, Ara Institute of Canterbury is gearing up to host hundreds of school leavers searching for career and study opportunities, at its annual Open Day on Thursday 31 January.

The event is expected to attract many adult learners too, from people seeking to gain new skills in order to re-enter the workforce, to those who want to upskill in their current job or to change career altogether.

Open Day attendees have more than 150 study options to explore at Ara, with certificates, diplomas, degrees and postgraduate qualifications available in a wide variety of subjects. Tutors will be on hand to discuss all the options.

Information sessions at Open Day offer another way to learn about a particular study area or programme. There are sessions on applied sciences, business, music, social work, art and design, laboratory science, computing, engineering, construction, nursing, midwifery and several other subjects.

Open Day attendees can also tour the campus, find out about the wide range of support services available to students and even enrol on the day (ID such as a passport or birth certificate is required).

Students who’ve already enrolled to study at Ara in 2019 can take advantage of Open Day to check out their classrooms, visit the library, get their student ID and sort out their transport options.

Open Day takes place from 2pm to 5pm at Ara’s City campus on Madras Street, the Woolston campus on Ensors Road and at the institute’s Timaru campus on Arthur Street. Ara’s new health campus, ‘Manawa’, on Antigua Street in Christchurch will be open for tours and information sessions between 3.30pm and 5pm (following the building’s official opening by the Minister of Health earlier in the afternoon).
