It had Labour is up three percentage points to 45% and National down two to 43% compared to the last poll by the same organisation nearly three months ago.

The Greens were 7% (up 1), NZ First 5% (steady) and Maori Party – 1% (steady).

The poll took place between Oct 15 and Oct 19 spanning a period of negative headlines for National around the departure of Jami-Lee Ross and his allegations against National Leader Simon Bridges.

The poll also showed Simon Bridges decreasing as preferred Prime Minister by three points down to 7%, with Jacinda Ardern rising two to her highest rating of 42%. Judith Collins was on 5% ahead of Winston Peters on 4%.

Optimism over NZ’s economic outlook decreased, dropping to 33% from 39% in the last poll. Pessimism grew by six points, up to 41%.

The poll was of 1006 eligible voters contacted either by landline or mobile phone. The maximum sampling error was 3.1%.
