Whanau and Communities share learnings from home building experience

A key housing hui is to be held in Moerewa on Wednesday 24 May to provide an opportunity for whanau and groups working on housing to share their stories, their learnings and the practical obstacles they have faced as they work towards whanau and families having warm and secure housing.

“Northland Housing Forum has hosted Hui like this since we began in 2005. This Hui is an opportunity for whanau, Maori and community groups to share their experience in building homes. The Hui will also help direct the Forum’s work of advocating for housing needs to be met, and supporting the work of groups providing housing,” said Northland Housing Forum convenor Tim Howard.

“This Hui is a chance for whanau and community groups to air their experiences of obstacles and opportunities to build their own housing, especially on Maori land. The experience of people and groups responding to the ongoing housing crisis in the North will also be shared,@ said Tim Howard.

The Hui is open to all. It will be held at Te Punawai Centre, opposite the BP station on the State Highway in Moerewa, on Wednesday 24th May. The Hui begins with mihi whakatau at 9.30am, and finishes with a shared lunch at 1pm.
