On the 23rd of June 2016, the United Kingdom will vote to either remain inside or to leave the European Union.

British High Commissions and Embassies around the world are supporting the UK Election Commission’s efforts to encourage more eligible British voters outside the UK to register to vote.

“British nationals who have been registered to vote in the UK in the last 15 years can have their say in this referendum. We are encouraging everyone who reads this – eligible to vote or not – to share this information with British nationals. We are encouraging the general public to use #YourVoteMaters to help us make sure that eligible Brits have a chance to have their say,” British High Commissioner Jonathan Sinclair said.

As a UK citizen living abroad, you can register to vote, or update your details by visiting the voter registration page here. The registration process usually takes about 5 minutes. You will need:

• Your National Insurance Number, if you have one

• Your UK passport

Ballot papers for the referendum will be sent to overseas voters towards the end of May so we recommend you make sure you are registered by May 16 to ensure you or your friends/contacts do not miss out.
