Weak and Evasive Responses on Immigration Scams

The Minister of Immigration Michael Woodhouse failed to give an explanation for the latest immigration scam revealed by TV3’s Campbell Live on January 27 and 28 in parliament today says New Zealand First.

“The Minister fudged and evaded our specific questions on the very serious matter of immigration rackets,” Leader Rt Hon Winston Peters said.

“The large-scale racket exposed by Campbell Live is the result of either incompetence or corruption.

“Either is completely unacceptable.

“Quite clearly the Immigration Department is not adequately resourced if a television programme can easily find a person who is allegedly running a business that rips off migrants and who flaunts our laws.

“The laws of New Zealand are being undermined and yet all the public gets is feeble and evasive responses from the Minister of Immigration.

“New Zealand First calls on the Prime Minister to appoint a Minister of Immigration who will take swift and decisive action to deal with rife immigration scams,” says Mr Peters.
