Pro Bono Week celebrates employee volunteering
During Pro Bono Week 2013, 20 – 26 October, Volunteering New Zealand (VNZ) has been encouraging New Zealand to recognise those who do pro bono.
Pro Bono Week is a new initiative where businesses are encouraged to partake in more pro bono practices, whilst recognising those who already volunteer their services in the community.
Corporates such as Bell Gully, Crowe Howarth, Ideas Shop, Simpson Grierson and DLA Phillips Fox have been featured for their pro bono work in the community.
This promotional week is the first of its kind in New Zealand, celebrating pro bono work ethics in the community which offer professional skills and advice to not-for-profits who need it most. Ideally, those corporates recognised for their pro bono work will be examples to encourage others to practice pro bono in future.
VNZ’s Chief Executive Vanisa Dhiru believes celebration of pro bono in the community is crucial.
“It is imperative to recognise those who volunteer their time and efforts in the community. The good work in our communities which make it a better place for us to live and work, goes unrecognised so often so why not celebrate it? Without this amazing support, the community sector would struggle.”

Pro Bono Week runs from the 20 – 26 October 2013 and is part of a global movement.
