Wharenui Garden Stage II

You may remember that in August last year, JCI Christchurch and Circle Trust helped install a community garden at Wharenui Primary School with great success. Well, now it’s time for stage two! Raumati South School, a primary school on the Kapiti Coast, is entering a show garden in the upcoming Ellerslie Flower Show and is very generously gifting the garden to Wharenui after the show on March 11. The gifting will be completed with a formal presentation from the Kapiti Coast Mayor, Jenny Rowland, at around midday. We would love for anyone interested to join us in celebrating this gift from one community to another.

How can you get involved?

As well as inviting everyone to the gifting ceremony, JCI Christchurch needs volunteers to rebuild the garden at Wharenui. By lending a hand, you will play an integral part in the project – and fingers crossed, there may even be breakfast provided!

We’ll need volunteers from 7am – 12pm on the morning of the 11th March. So if you are able to help and want to get involved please email Prudence at president@jcichristchurch.org (simply reply to this message) to register your interest.

2013 Relay for Life

If gardens aren’t your thing but you’re still looking for an opportunity to volunteer, we’re also helping out at the 2013 Relay for Life In association with the Cancer Society, to take place on 16/17 March at Riccarton High School. Relay is a great and fun event to be involved in!

How can you get involved?

Support we have been asked to give includes making and giving out survivor sashes, blowing up some balloons and facilitating/hosting afternoon tea for cancer survivors and their carers on March 16th, as well as simply cheering on participants as they make their way around the track.
To start off, we are having a Potluck this Friday, the 1st of March at 6.30pm (please reply to this message for the address). Bring a plate, eat some food, chat and complete the sashes. This is a casual event to make a start on our involvement for Relay for Life.
If you are keen to be involved on the day then we would love your help for a few hours on the afternoon of Saturday 16th March. Please email Prudence at president@jcichristchurch.org by replying to this message to express your interest.

Let’s celebrate survivors, remember those lost, and fight back against cancer together.
