No Changes To Waipareira Board

There were no changes to the Te Whanau O Waipareira Board following the west Auckland organisation’s Annual General Meeting last night.

Two positions were up for grabs but following a vote at the Hoani Waititi Marae, Stephanie Harawira and Rocky Tahuri were voted back onto the Waipareira Board.

“If it ain’t broke don’t fix it,” Waipareira CEO John Tamihere told whanau after the votes had been counted.

“This Board is doing a wonderful job setting the direction and securing the future of Waipareira.”

Stephanie and Rocky will now stay on the board for three year terms. They re join Board Chairperson Josie Smith, Deputy Anaru Martin, Dame June Mariu, Evelyn Taumaunu Raymond Hall, Moyna Grace, and Clint Rickards.

“I take this as a vote of confidence for myself and Rocky,” Stephanie says.

“This also says we as a Board are taking Te Whānau O Waipareira in the right direction.”

Whanau gathered at the AGM were told by John the organisation was debt free “and that’s not bad in these tough times.

“It’s been a tough 12 months and it’s not getting any easier but we will be scrapping for what whanau are entitled to.

“That’s our role as their advocates.”
