Largest Carrotmob in New Zealand taking place at Sustainable City Showcase
A Carrotmob taking place at the Sustainable City Showcase on Saturday 24 November is aiming to be the largest ever in New Zealand. The Carrotmob is an opportunity for consumers to vote with their wallets and reward businesses that are providing sustainable products or services.
The concept emerged in the US as a positive alternative to boycotting non-sustainable products by consumers and rewarding more sustainable options with their custom, i.e. the ‘carrot’ as opposed to the ‘stick’.
The Carrotmob, which will be opened by Auckland Mayor Len Brown, will take place on 24 November from 11am-2pm at the Sustainable City Showcase, a three day event at Auckland’s Cloud on Queen’s Wharf. All participating vendors will contribute a self determined percentage of their sales achieved during the Carrotmob to the charitable group Garden to Table.
Garden to Table aims to change the way children approach and think about food, allowing children across New Zealand to learn how to grow, harvest, prepare and share fresh, seasonal food.
The Carrotmob is just one event taking place over the three days of the Sustainable City Showcase. Visitors to the pop up sustainable city will be inspired by talks, engage in interactive workshops and forums, and learn about emerging technologies. They can also enjoy discovering delicious organic and sustainable cuisine in the café and food zone.
Other events at the Showcase include the NZI National Sustainable Business Network Awards, New Zealand’s First Ethical Fashion Show and Conscious Consumer Breakfast.
