The Hunt Is On Again For Miss Tui 2012
Wanted: A woman who can swing an axe, hook a fish, apply lipstick without a mirror and loves Tui more than her hair straightener, she is out there somewhere!
Tui, New Zealand’s most popular beer brand is on the hunt again for Miss Tui. This year’s competition looks set to be the hottest yet offering cash and liquid gold (Tui of course), plus a year’s bragging rights for one lucky women.
Tui Brand Manager, William Papesch says, “There’s a definite buzz about the brewery with a nationwide search underway to find the Queen of all things Tui.”
“Our ideal Miss Tui is an elusive character, never one to shy away from hard work. She can tie a clove hitch blindfolded and put up a tent faster than she frequently says – who wants a cold Tui with their steak and chips? She’s streetwise with a sparking personality and loves Tui more than… shopping!”
The last four of the seven Miss Tui winners were unearthed in Palmerston North, Auckland and Wellington so this year Tui is throwing down the gauntlet to other city and country girls, with a regional map on the website highlighting the contestant’s home town.
“In previous year’s Miss Tui attracted entrants from all over this fine nation and this year’s competition is no different,” says Papesch, “It’s not just about beauty and brains – although they do help! We want the girls to show off some good old fashioned kiwi ingenuity and Tui smarts, that’s why we have developed more prize categories like, ‘The Girl Next Door’ a wholesome and natural lass not afraid to roll up her sleeves or throw on a pair of gum boots.”
Other categories include ‘The People’s Choice’ and the big title, ‘Miss Tui 2012’, who will walk away with the crown plus $2500 in cash and a bottle of Tui every day for a year.
Papesch says social media is an increasingly important tool for today’s modern woman, especially those entering ‘The Biggest Voice’ section.
“She’s got to have on-line nous and know her way around Facebook and Twitter as well as be able to make some noise on radio and TV.”
As per previous years, the 2012 contestants have to complete a series of challenges to earn pins for their online ‘sash’ over eight weeks, and for the lucky 8 finalists there are a further 2 challenges. This year there is also something in it for the contestant’s supporters who have the opportunity to be rewarded with money can’t buy Tui sleeping bag suits by showing their support for their favorite contestant.
Papesch says competition entry numbers hit a record high last year and he’s expecting another record to be set this year.
“Last year 123 entrants generated 700,000 page views enticing more than 150,000 unique visitors”
The winner is expected to be announced in May.
