Forty seven Computer Graphic Design students will celebrate their graduation from the Whanganui School of Design on Friday 16 December.

The ceremony will have an international flavour. Half of the graduands are international students, representing Malaysia, India, China and Sri Lanka.

Of the total eligible to graduate, 34 have successfully completed the Bachelor of Computer Graphic Design, four the Bachelor of Computer Graphic Design (Honours), four the Postgraduate Diploma of Computer Graphic Design, four the Graduate Diploma in Animation and one Masterate in Computer Graphic Design.

The degrees are jointly conferred by the Whanganui School of Design and the University of Waikato.

Thirty four of the graduating class held an end of year exhibition displaying work with themes as diverse as fairytales, music videos and websites for fashion, food, fun and education.

The students used a range of media from book design, typography and illustration to video, animation, website and iPad game applications. UCOL Senior Lecturer Tanya Robertson said the “calibre, creativity and variety of work was amazing, showing a diversity seldom found in one design school.”

The guest speaker at the graduation ceremony is Eric Dorfman, Director of Whanganui Regional Museum. The Chair of UCOL’s Council Trevor Goodwin and Chief Executive Paul McElroy will also address the graduands.

The Graduation ceremony will commence at 10.30am at the Royal Wanganui Opera House. There will be a procession after the ceremony bringing the students back to Matapihi ki te Ao campus for a reception.
