Sounds in the Sun Artist Search Announces Winner
After some fierce competition Unknown Peace have been announced as the official winners of the Sounds in the Sun Artist Search competition. The band will make their debut opening New Zealand’s biggest orientation music festival on Saturday 3rd March 2012 in front of a crowd of 10,000 people.
“The competition has been a great success! It’s been fantastic to see fresh hot talent getting out there. We are looking forward to having Unknown Peace rock the stage alongside our killer line up Katchafire, 1814, Kidz in Space, Bulletproof featuring Jessie G and Rugged Tekniques along with the world winning Prestige Dance Crew. And I’m itching to announce our big hitter headline announcement!” says Public Relations and Sponsorship Manager Natalie Blucher.
The competition was launched on 7th November 2011 via USU Students’ Association’s Facebook page. Participants were asked to simply to enter a 3-6 minute YouTube video of their band or performance that was displayed on the Artist Search “Watch Videos” tab. The top five video entries that gained the highest number of “likes” before the closing date (7pm on 11 December 2011) went through to the final. The panel of industry professional judges: A & R Universal Music consultant Josh Peterson, Sounds in the Sun Events Manager Adam Basham and Clint from The Edge then rated each finalist out of 10.
“The Sounds in the Sun artist search competition is a great opportunity for bands to get their music heard and to join some of New Zealand’s best bands on stage and open the biggest orientation music festival in New Zealand. We’ve picked Unknown Peace who will be awarded a great opportunity,” says The Edge Presenter Clint Roberts.
Unknown Peace have now won opening the Sounds in the Sun 2012 Music Festival, a day in York Street recording studios, NZ’s Premier recording facility, with a top engineer recording their song, an interview on Juice TV, lunch with A & R consultant for Universal Music, 5 Double Passes to Sounds in the Sun Music Festival for their friends, VIP treatment at Sounds in the Sun and a photo-shoot with Snap Star.
The event has had the biggest names in New Zealand grace its stage with the likes of Kora, Hollie Smith, Katchafire, Ladi 6, The Black Seeds, Mt Eden Dubstep, Tahuna Breaks, P-Money, Ivy Lies, J Williams, Dane Rumble and more.
The event will be the next big thing after New Years Eve to end summer on a high. General admission tickets are only $20 from Dash Tickets.
Big ups to the 2012 Artist Search sponsors York Street recording studios, Juice TV, The Edge, Snap Star Live and Rip It Up Magazine.
