Twelve Auckland City District Police will receive a range of awards and medals tomorrow morning at the Town Hall in recognition of their service.

A District Commander’s Commendation goes to a constable in recognition of her compassion, professionalism and negotiating skills when dealing with a depressed and intoxicated woman near railway tracks in Glen Innes late at night.

Three officers and three members of the public will receive a Commissioner’s Certificate of Appreciation for their professionalism and bravery when dealing with an agitated and suicidal man for several hours on the Sky Tower’s Skywalk on September 5 last year.

Collectively, their actions and demeanours achieved a successful resolution whereby no one was injured or killed.

The bi-annual Medals and Awards ceremony will be hosted by Councillor George Wood and will be attended by Police Minister Judith Collins, Deputy Commissioner Viv Rickard and several members of the Auckland City District Police management team.

It will be the last such ceremony that retiring District Commander Superintendent George Fraser will officiate at.
